Mediterranean Restaurants in El Nido

Introduction

Every tourist town needs a Mediterranean restaurant. Fortunately, for you there are two in El Nido! Our favorite is Cafe Athena, with Taverna Agape following. If you’re looking to get out of town Cafe Athena is your spot. They’ve got a new location at Maremegmeg Beach (Vanilla Beach area) with gorgeous views of the bay and the best swimming beach near town.

Cafe Athena

Cafe Athena is harding to mix especially if you’re walking on El Nido’s most popular restaurant road, Serena Street. You’re immediately drawn to the open space restaurant with views of native Filipino bancas (island-hopping boats) and the refreshing breeze that comes through. This spot has something for everyone.

The owner of this photo loved One of our favorite meals in El Nido. Located right next to the beach, Café Athena provides wonderful views as well as delicious (mouth-watering, Greek cuisine. Chicken Souvlaki- Freshly grilled skewers of meat and vegetables, served with garlic yogurt sauce, home-made Pita bread and French Fries. We love this plate the most!! Beef Gyros: The classic Greek wrap with garlic yogurt. Ginger Zinger: Fresh fruit juice made by apple, carrot, ginger and lemon. This one was impressive because we’ve never drunk any kind of juice with such a strong ginger flavor.

The visiting vegetarian will likely order the Veggie Souvlaki (best seller) or the Pasta alla Puttanesca. We recommend starting with Mediterranean Dips (Hummus, Htipiti, Baba Ghanoush), any of their delicious salads (Horiatiki or Rokka), or the Carrot & Ginger Soup. Leave room for dessert in the form of some home-made ice cream.

Taverna Agape

Taverna (ta·ver·na /təˈvərnə/) noun meaning a small Greek restaurant or cafe. Taverna Agape is exactly that. Follow the small blue sign in the front and be swept away by a rustic Greek setting with a view of the ocean. This is also the same group that brings about El Nido’s most popular pizza spot, Altrove.

“With a blue-and-white Mediterranean motif, this beachfront eatery scores points for authentic saganaki (fried cheese) with Halloumi cheese, moussaka, and souvlaki over orzo (short-cut wheat pasta), among other delights. Top it off with baklava and a shot of ouzo, of course.” Lonely Planet says on Taverna Agape.
